James Burr began his career as a grain merchandiser for Bartlett Grain. He subsequently joined Farmers Commodities Corporation in 1981 as a commercial grain hedger. Promoted to office manager in 1986, James started up the firm's energy division. He developed the derivatives division of FCStone in 1990, which became FCStone Trading, LLC of which he is currently Vice President. He is part of the FCStone HedgeSmart Group within FCStone. This elite group of energy brokers handles trades for larger commercial energy accounts.

With more than 29 years of experience managing risk for commercial accounts, ranging from retailers to end users, James possesses a unique understanding of the strategic use of derivatives, physicals, and the futures market as beneficial tools to manage risk and improve profits. A known keynote speaker, he utilizes his expertise with cash contracts, futures and derivatives to assist clients with the risk management skills needed in today's marketplace. He holds bachelor degrees in Animal Science and Agricultural Business and a master's degree in Agricultural Business.
